Art is in my blood. I come from a family of artists, and in my high school years, spent my Saturday mornings at the Milwaukee Art Museum, penciling sketches in charcoal for classical figure drawing classes. Despite the giggling and the embarrassment I had, as a fifteen-year old staring at nude models, I advanced through those Saturday classes, and fine art stayed with me through college. But, although drawing was my passion, I ended up with a degree in Art History instead.
I remember loving the Impressionists back then, and eventually phased into a love of modern art…Jackson Pollock, Keith Haring and Patrick Nagel. As of late, graffiti art has become an obsession of mine, and my last two purchases were works by street artist, Chris Hobe.
I thought sharing Chris Hobe’s work of political satire and manipulations of Uncle Sam with skeletal faces is timely with Halloween and Election Day on its heels.
Another artist I’ve fallen in love with — Dolan Geiman — was introduced to me by friends in Chicago who had discovered his work at an art show earlier this Fall. His large scale collages are amazing, and one of my favorites is also timely with Dia de los Muertos.
Suffice it to say, I love a little bad ass style in my wardrobe (and in my home) and have put together a round-up of some sugar skull style. Fashion & interiors fused again.
