Ever since Kelly Wearstler created her own ready-to-wear collection, and opened up her flagship boutique on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, I’ve wanted to go. For me, it’s like an Elvis fan’s pilgrimage to Graceland.
Every inch of the exterior and interior has Kelly’s signature on it — her design is pure genius. From the curbside: her corner location with perforated brass awnings and porthole windows; the brass globe atop the building; and with marble and cerused wood details along the entrance — what’s not to draw even the casual passerby in? As stunning as the entrance is, my favorite detail was the oversized circular coco mat, which mimics the brass globe overhead.
Inside, is a never-ending euphoria and display of her talent and creations — from the products she showcases: her fashion collection; home furnishings and accessories; vintage books and one-of-a-kind pieces; amazing jewelry line and tabletop… to the display tables and cases; the walls; checkered carpet in the dressing rooms; marble stools; and black-and-white cerused-wood hangers…every single detail (even the gold Sharpie’s to sign notecards with at the cash wrap) was well-designed and thoughtful.
Kelly has always been a rock-star interior designer, but every category in her global lifestyle brand is truly out of this stratosphere.
