Last night I had the great pleasure of attending the ASID New England Awards Gala as a guest of Paige Pieroni of Colony Rug. It was especially exciting for me because Kristen Rivoli — whom I got to know from the 2012 Junior League of Boston Show House — was one of the 2014 Gala Honorees, along with Pamela Copeman, Kim Deetjen, Rachel Pike and Eric Roseff.
What struck me personally, as each honoree accepted their award, was the pure sincerity and graciousness that each designer had for their mentors, their loved ones and the New England design community. Hearing each designer’s background — how they achieved success in their careers, and how each one fulfilled their dreams as they all had discovered their innate creativity as young children: Pamela, making 2-D floor plans with pine needles in a tree house with her sisters; Kristen, attending art school and feeling the thrill in her core; Eric, finding excitement in dumping a bag of memo samples onto the floor to decorate his childhood bedroom and opting for his mom’s House & Garden magazines while his peers were stealing peeks into Playboy — was awesome and inspiring! The gratitude they expressed was genuine and heartfelt — and man, Pamela’s introduction or “roast”, written by her daughter, quite possibly stole the show, shedding laughter throughout the Mandarin ballroom superseded by none other than Pamela’s own hysterics.
A reminder to…”Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.” – Henry David Thoreau…and also to incorporate gratitude into your everyday regimen, as life is short — and we all can’t wait for our day at the podium.
If that’s not enough motivation, read “6 Personal Philosophies..“of pursuing one’s dreams by today’s successful innovators from Fast Company.
Thanks to Paige, ASID New England and to Kristen Rivoli for her constant kindness! Eric won my heart, and Pamela, your children are an amazing testimony to your inner beauty!
