Fashion: Pantone’s Spring 2013 Color Report

Pantone is the global authority on color.  After previewing New York Fashion Week for Spring 2013, Pantone’s report compiles the most important color trends and gives us a list of the prominent hues for the season.

Here they are:

and for Mens:

The theme this season is “balance.”  The palettes are a mix of “soothing neutrals and energizing brights” creating the perfect balance for spring.  Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says,

“The expression ‘balancing act’ is something we all relate to as we strive to find harmony in the frantic pace of our everyday lives.  The same can be said for fashion as we look for balance between light and bright, classic and new.  This season’s color palette emphasizes the need for balance, while at the same time allowing for individuality, self-expression and excitement.”

It’s pretty obvious that green is the most prevalent color — the Women’s grouping has 3 greens:  Emerald, Grayed Jade and Tender Shoots.  Pantone’s report, shows several designers’ color inspiration for their Spring lines which lists sketches in green after green.  If I’d have to bet now, on the Color of the Year, I’d pick Emerald.  However, right away, I was drawn to the red and blue, and was surprised not to see any bright shades of pink.

The comprehensive list of Women’s and Men’s colors combined follows…
