I wasn’t going to make any New Year’s resolutions this year, thinking that each year I strive for the same things, but then I read this article in the New York Times by KJ Dell’Antonia — who wrote about her “New Year’s Resolutions to Parent By” — and remembered to add one thing to my list.
KJ’s resolutions are simple. Three things. “Clean it, own it, enjoy it.” I think all 3 resolutions are great ones to live by, but her last one, “Enjoy It,” is about being present, and living in the moment — something I have to constantly remember to do. For me, it’s about not worrying about the next thing on my list, while I’m trying to help my kids get dressed for the day. Or, not finding the ice cream melted in the refrigerator because I forgot to put it in the freezer! I will aim to soak up the moment, and stop and pay attention to the one hot pink rose that stands out in the bunch — just as we found this summer in our bushes (photographed above).
