“Do They Know It’s Christmas?” Revisited

Last year I wrote a fairly lengthy post filled with “threes” facts about my favorite Christmas song, “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” (Band Aid, 1984).  My family told me it was a little too much information, but hey, I’m pretty passionate about Bob Geldof’s effort behind it.  I had mentioned that there were 3 versions of this song:  (1) the original in 1984;  (2)  1989 version (Band Aid II) – featuring Kylie Minogue, Chris Rea,  Cliff Richard, Jimmy Somerville, Lisa Stansfield; and (3) 2004 version (Band Aid 20) with Sir Paul McCartney, Bono, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Dido, Joss Stone.

Last week, on the December 13th episode, Glee did their rendition (see video here).  The song was released on iTunes, and 100% of Glee’s proceeds will go the Band Aid Charitable Trust.

You can listen to Band Aid’s original version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” here.  Nothing compares to Simon LeBon, George Michael, Sting, Bono, Boy George and Phil Collins on the drums.  I’m not a huge fan of the Band Aid II version in 1989, but I do like the 2004 one by Band Aid 20.  Chris Martin, Bono and my favorite part is the rapping by Dizzee Rascal.  Check it out below.

Merry Christmas!
