One of my favorite festivities in December is the annual Christmas Stroll on Nantucket. This year, we changed things up a bit and decided to take that “Nantucket Stroll” spirit out to Chicago, where we got together with a bunch of great friends. We did a gift exchange, strolled down Michigan Ave, ate at some great restaurants, and shopped (though not enough for my liking — I needed another day for that)! One of our hosts was Alli, from Roslyn Street Cafe — pictured with me in a classic tourist shot, in front of the tree-adorned Wrigley Building.
Among the eateries on our agenda, was Girl & The Goat, where we had dinner. “Top Chef” Season 4 winner (2008), Stephanie Izard, is the executive chef and Karen Herold completed the interior design. The restaurant’s interior has a mix of industrial style with rustic elements and is cozy and comfortable: some of the tables are made from weathered oak planks; the lighting is a mix of antique glass fixtures with oversized industrial pendants. One of the most unique designs is a center wall partition made from burnt cedar plank boards (photo, bottom left – above). Another striking object is a brightly colored painting of a girl and a goat that measures 7×7 feet, by Quang Hong, whom Izard had commissioned to do the work (right, above). The food and the atmosphere were definitely worth — what I heard was — up to a 3-month advance reservation!
Here is the most creative concoction I’ve ever seen for a cocktail.
This Apple Cider drink from the Aviary — a bar and lounge located in Chicago’s meat-packing district — is created by a team of mixologists. A cylindrical glass pitcher, designed by Martin Kastner, is filled with fruit, flowers, herbs and zest on the inside — so beautiful and brilliantly mastered.
In my shopping, I spotted this Stella McCartney handbag and had to take note of what will be one of the big Spring 2012 trends.
I saw lots of bright neon colors and expect to see more in upcoming Spring 2012 lines. The Stella McCartney bag was really cool with the mix of snake skin, metal chains and bright neon pink.
I’m ready to go back. Eat, drink and be merry (3 things) in Chicago!
