Eames Documentary

This Friday, November 18th, Eames: The Architect and the Painter, a documentary film about husband and wife, Charles and Ray Eames — two of the most influential American designers and creative geniuses of the 20th century — opens up at the IFC Center in New York and Laemmle Music Hall in Los Angeles.

EAMES is directed by Jason Cohn and Bill Jersey and narrated by James Franco.

The trailer gets me excited to learn about the Eames design offices located at 901 Washington Blvd. in Venice Beach, CA, its history, and the way Charles and Ray’s creativity influenced modernism.  Here in Boston, Eames: The Architect and the Painter will play at the Museum of Fine Arts  on December 7 and 9-14, 2011.  For a  list of showings in your city, view here.  Otherwise,  the documentary will air Monday, December 19, 2011 on American Masters on PBS, and will be available on DVD on December 13th.

Charles and Ray Eames’ furniture designs are simple, sleek and modern.   Three of my favorite pieces are here.

 1. 2. 3.

Have you seen the documentary already?  Do you have a favorite Eames piece?
