Seeing Stars: Pendant Lighting

Two weeks ago, I had posted about Gwyneth Paltrow’s Charles Edwards star lanterns, one of her favorite things she “can’t live without,” as featured in Elle Decor September 2011.  Based on feedback, I wanted to share my local resource for star lanterns and other unique lighting on Boston’s South Shore – Fleming’s of Cohasset Village.

The assortment of star lanterns at Fleming’s includes options with clear glass, seeded glass, opaque glass and antique mirror from one manufacturer.  There is also a silver finish that is available with seeded glass from another manufacturer.

Sampling of pricing:

  1. 10″ Clear Glass and Copper Star, $279.95;  18″ Clear Glass and Copper Star, $319.95
  2. 10″ Seeded Glass and Copper Star, $379.95; 18″ Seeded Glass and Copper Star, $449.95
  3. Seeded Glass and Silver Finish Star (as pictured), $419.95

Fleming’s has a nicely edited showroom of lighting and carries the largest selection of Bell Jars in New England.

Their bell jar selection varies with finishes, sizes and different glass etchings.  My favorite is the star-etched glass bell jar (pictured below, left) – one that I’ve used in my own home.

The owners, Joy and Frank Smith, are extremely helpful and knowledgeable (and were very kind and patient with my four kids, who tagged along for this visit).  If you are not local to Boston and cannot make a trip to Cohasset, you can contact them directly at the shop.

…and “meet” them (virtually) here.
