This week marks the start of the French Open, the second out-of-four Major tennis tournaments each year – the others Wimbledon, the U.S Open and the Australian Open which already took place in January.
John C. Hugo, an artist from Matthews, North Carolina, captures the Grand Slam events using a bold, abstract approach. I love his tennis depictions and thought these three would make a huge statement when hung together in a series.
The red clay courts at Roland Garros.
Wimbledon’s legendary grass courts.
U.S. Open’s hard courts in Flushing Meadows, NY.
John’s painting titled, “Aussie,” can be viewed in his Abstract gallery here.
I love to play tennis on clay courts and strangely, have an affinity for the sound of sneakers sliding across the surface at the French Open. Someday, I’d love to be in attendance at Wimbledon – it’s on my bucket list!
